Teppanyaki at Home | What You’ll Need to Make? | Teppanyaki Electric Griddle

Now that you understand the background of teppanyaki, it's time to start cooking! My family can't get enough teppanyaki, because eating a meal together is really a happy activity at home. It is convenient, simple and fun, and you can get the most delicious food in no time!

1. Protein of Your Choice

Usually, we prepare a short rib, cut into 1/4 inch thick. When the meat has a good marble pattern, it is less chewy and tender.

You can also serve pork, chicken or seafood. If you are a vegetarian, you can eat tofu, mushrooms and other vegetables.

2. Vegetables and Mushrooms

Some common vegetables for teppanyaki grill include shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, Shimeiji mushrooms, chopped cabbage, bean sprouts, kabocha squash, carrots and stone pepper. Feel free to add a variety of vegetables, such as zucchini, eggplant, sweet potatoes, etc.

3. Teppanyaki Sauce

In Japan, some people call the dipping sauce teppanyaki sauce, but this sauce is mainly used for barbecue, so most people call it Yakiniku sauce or Yakiniku no Tare(焼肉のたれ), which literally means "barbecue sauce."

You can buy ready-made sauces from Japanese grocery stores, but I strongly recommend that you make them yourself. If you are interested in trying it, I have another recipe for Japanese wild soy sauce.

Just a few simple Japanese condiments can be put together. It is not only very easy to make, but also contains no preservatives, you know what's in the sauce! I will discuss in detail below.

4. Teppan – Portable Electric Griddle (“Hot Plate”)

You need an teppanyaki table or electric griddle like this to enjoy a tabletop grilling. We have one from Cookeryaki and like to use it on our teppanyaki dining table.

You can buy this simple electric griddle or the electric griddle I have (above), it has an optional accessory for Takoyaki (sold separately).

What is the smell and smoke of the indoor grill?

Some people who often grill outside may not be used to "indoor" grilling. As a large outdoor grill space, most of them use Japanese-style grill space. They are also used to the atmosphere of Teppanyaki, Yakiniku and Yakitori restaurants.

You can't stop the smell and smoke of the barbecue inside the house, but you can reduce it by ensuring that your restaurant is well ventilated. Open the window a bit (even in winter), if the kitchen vent is nearby, open it. Be sure to close all doors so that smoke does not come in.

It may still bother you, but it will not last more than a day. You just remember to have delicious teppanyaki  at home with your friends and family.
